The Kings Cross Hotel, the Ablion House

As previously mentioned, I went to the UK.  After the lovely and homey stay I had in Portsmouth I had very high expections of London, and the hotel my grandparents picked.  Well, here’s my mistake: expections.  One thing I learned from travelling was not to have expectations.  The hotel’s lobby is down the road and around the corner and when we arrived we were so beyond confused.  It was convenient because we were so close to Kings Cross and St. Pancreas station that it wasn’t too long of a walk.  When we finally got in I was terrified about just how small the room was! There was 6 inches between my grandparents bed and mine. 6 INCHES. I guess there is no such thing as personal space in London? The room had dozens of ants, and the shower head sprayed the ENTIRE bathroom.  My grandma felt so unsafe in the hotel.  We locked up all our suitcases when we left and we kept checking our sheets to ensure that there were no ants in our bed.  We could...

Briar Rose by Jane Yolen

Once upon a time there lived a King and a Queen who longed for a a child.  They waited years, and years for a child to come, finally one came.  A beautiful baby girl, to celebrate they threw a massive festival and everyone in the kingdom was invited, except the evil fairy.  Sound familiar? The story of Sleeping Beauty, is famously known, however what if the tale was a secret to more?  I welcome you to Jane Yolen’s beautiful curse of Briar Rose. Becca is a twenty-three year old reporter, who has a strong connection with her grandmother known as Gemma.  As her Gemma is passing, she asks Becca to promise to prove that she was Briar Rose.  To Becca a promise is a promise, and she plans to keep it even without not knowing exactly what the fairytale of Briar Rose is about to bring into her life.  Becca is left to search for clues and left to investigate the life of her Gemma and her complicated path to America. Briar Rose is one of the best construc...

Seacrest Hotel, Southsea, Portsmouth

Recently, I got the once in a lifetime opportunity to travel Europe.  I flew from Ottawa, ON over into London, UK.  From there, my grandparents put the family on a mission to enjoy the view, the area and figure out where my grandparent's ancestors lived. They found the address, however, it was saved until our last day.  For our overnight stays, we had reserved a room in the Seacrest Hotel. We got a BEAUTIFUL room, with red accents.  We also got a BEAUTIFUL view of the beach.  I loved it.  While my grandparents were arguing about a lock on the luggage I snuck out and navigated the town.  Nearby there was a pier and a beach and I found myself just sitting on the shore and watching the water.  By the time I had gotten back we had found out that my grandfather had grabbed the wrong suitcase from the airport.  The front desk staff was beyond phenomenal.  They offered to drive my grandpa to the airport to switch bags, plus th...
