Sphinx's Princess by Esther Friesner

Back in acient Egypt, there was a young girl named Nefertiti.  Her name meant, "The Beautiful One Has Come", and belonged to her father Ay and his new wife, Mery.  They then had Nefertiti's sister, Mutnodjmet also known as Bit-Bit.  They both shared a passion for music and dance.  However only Nerfertiti has a passion for reading and writing.  When Nefertiti's aunt, Great Royal Wife Tiye, the family is forced to visit the Pharaoh's wife, Nefertiti's goes for an unexpected turn.  If Queen Tiye finds out about Nefertiti's secret talent she will become a pawn in her game.
Queen Tiye, is sneaky, she knows how much power she holds above the Pharaoh.  The Queen has ordered Nefertiti to marry the eldest son Thutmose because of her beauty.
Following the Queen's rules Nefertiti challenges herself.  Learning to do things she would have never done before.  She continues to fight for what she believes and not even her aunt can stop her from doing so.

This book is a little confusing a first because they are names you just can't pronouce.  And you don't really see why she would have to marry her cousin (In the royal family, during this time, it was common to have insece in the family.) After I was done reading this book I went and looked up who Nefertiti was.  She looks stunning in her sculpture, and by far the most beautiful woman to ever roam the planet.  She is such an interesting character and makes you wonder more and more about her real story.

This book is really awesome. Esther Friesner did an amazing job writing about such an unknown character in acient Egypt.

Rate: 9/10

Comment: " Great read for woman who follow the rules, but plan on making difference in the world."

Favourite Quote: "I wanted to keep flying!  I wanted to outrun my shadow, and the palace that we'd left behind, and the day when my three years of reprieve would be over and my aunt wouldn't have to take 'Not yet! Not yet!' for an answer."
