Last review Monday was about the Tao of Pooh. Now to the small animal of the A. A. Milne's Piglet from Winnie the Pooh is being used to describe the te (meaning virtue) of the small; one of the main principles in Taoism. This book made me so relaxed, and so pleased with the topics that were brought up in the book. I was so happy. They were topics I never knew how to explain how I felt and there it all was written in a book! Things like school, the government, the society, the environment, the increase in technology, and people's general well being. These things have flaws and everything is taken care of in very inefficient ways and we all think or believe it is the right way of doing things.
Couple of examples from the book with my point of view added:
School/Education System: "Next we come to the Educated Eeyores, whose idea of teaching is impress the maximum number of Unpleasant Things upon children at the minimum possible age." (Hoff, 70-71)
This statement from Benjamin Hoff is very true. If you don't have a basic understanding of reading, writing, and listening by the age of four you are bound to not be on the right way in your school life. As a child, I was always very smart when it came to reading for the longest time I was a level ahead of everyone in all of my classes because I loved reading so much. But as I grew older there were too many things to learn for me to keep up with my school. I'm going into grade 10 now, and by the teachers union it is said that I must have 100 minutes of homework EVERY NIGHT. This and they are encouraging us to join extra curricular activities, and get a job. When you think about it, it doesn't seem to be that much. But imagine this: Imagine having a test the next day first period. You have to stay after school for band and then you said you'd stay afterwards to help with the Volleyball tournament so that there isn't one person on the canteen. Now the teacher in charge doesn't let you work on your 100 minutes of homework check your phone or anything. Band is 1 hour practise, the rest of the tournament is 2 hours long. Together that's 3 hours, then your homework makes it 4 hours and 40 minutes. Then you need to study for the test. So if school gets out at 3:15 this already puts you at 7:55 not including travel time from school to your home. Now think about it, you still need to eat. My dinner usually varies from 20 minutes to an hour maybe. Let's say it was 20 minutes and that's the only little bit of luck you've got that day. So now it would be about 8:15. If you are like me it's almost your bedtime, and well you are going to pass this test because it was a surprise. Then you stay up as long as you feel comfortable. So probably until 1 in the morning. Then if you get up at about 6 or maybe 7 you only get a 5-6 hour sleep. And the educational system thinks this is good. That the youth is learning to be in control and learn all of these unnecessary things. When it isn't needed at all. Yes it is cool, to know how what is filtrated but it's not needed in my day to day life! Or how school doesn't bother to teach me how to pay bills or how to be polite, or how to invest your money. They make us memorize the capitals of countries we might not ever visit and learn about other countries and their financial problems, but we don't help them.

Comment: "Brilliantly written."
Favourite Quote: "One thing they do have in common is fear. Eeyores are afraid-Afraid to risk positive emotional expression, Positive action, positive involvement in anything beyond Ego. Those things are stupid, they say, and they don't don't want to look stupid." (Hoff, 56)
